Guidelines for the Club Permit Scheme

The Club Permit Scheme (CPS) is recognised by VicRoads to make limited use of historic vehicles on the road network. This scheme allows unregistered 25 plus year old vehicles to be driven and the log book rules provides for either 45 or 90 days of use per year.

This scheme is popular because it provides lower total annual cost for the permit and vehicle insurance when compared to normal vehicle registration and insurance.

Our Club (not VicRoads) has copies for sale of the AOMC Handbook, which contains all relevant information and frequently asked questions about this scheme. It is strongly suggested you purchase this handbook and keep it with your CPS logbook after reading it.

Our Club is authorised by VicRoads to operate under this scheme. There are responsibilities and obligations to VicRoads for both the permit holder and the Club.

The following guidelines will assist intending CPS applicants to understand the process:

  • You must be a member before you can apply for a Club Permit. Your membership application may take up to two months before you are formally accepted as a member. You may pay a fee to fast-track this application but this may still take a month. If required, please request fast-track with the Membership Officer (
  • You must retain your Club membership for the duration of your Club Permit. The Club has a process to notify VicRoads when a member who has a CPS vehicle is no longer financial. Your car will be legally unregistered if you are not a financial member of the Club that signed off on the permit even if you have paid VicRoads the CPS fee.
  • Your Club Permit car must be a Mercedes-Benz and must be registered in your name. You may include one only car of another marque as long as at least one Mercedes-Benz is either fully registered or retained in CPS under your membership. The Club has the discretion to accept your application to include your car in the CPS.
  • Please call a Club Safety Officer to discuss your initial vehicle application, or a Club Authorised Officer to discuss your renewal, before mailing any documents. You may either request their names and phone numbers via or refer to the Club magazine. The Safety Officer is also available to sign your documents at the monthly General Meeting. 

The following are required with every new CPS application (not required for renewals) mailed to the Safety Officer:

  • A current Roadworthy Certificate for your car, not more than thirty days old from date of issue.
  • A completed VicRoads Club Permit Application form.
  • A completed VicRoads Vehicle eligibility and standards declaration for club permit vehicles form.
  • Any other documentation required by VicRoads, like the Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme (VASS) for modified cars.
  • A receipt/ticket for the $100 deposit submitted through the TryBooking MBCV CPS application deposit site:
  • If sending by mail to the Safety Officer, a stamped self-addressed envelope. Do not mail your application directly to the Club address – mail it to the address provided by the Safety Officer.
  • Email good quality digital photographic images of the car to (fuzzy, low quality or unfocused images will delay your application). The image requirements are as follows:
    • Photos to include an A4-sized sheet written with the current date and member’s name (in large block letters) and placed in view of the submitted photographs.
    • The following photographs must be submitted: front, driver’s side, rear, driving position (side on with the drivers door open)
    • Vehicle identifiers: VIN and/or chassis numbers; engine number (where possible).

    It is preferable that the photos be sent in JPEG format as an attachment to the email. Please note these photos must be approved by the Safety Officer before your VicRoads application form can be signed. Printed photos will NOT be accepted.

  • Do not mail your CPS forms directly to the Club address or the Club Secretary as it will delay the application process considerably.
  • Club members must allow sufficient time for the application forms (new and renewal) to be processed by the Club Safety Officer. Note: it can take up to two or more weeks to receive the return mail.
  • Once the signed VicRoads forms are returned to the member, the member then submits these with the RWC and the relevant fee to VicRoads for CPS registration.
  • The TryBooking $100 deposit is fully refunded, minus the 30 cents booking fee, after both the Club Registrar ( and Safety Officer ( are advised of your assigned CPS registration number. The Trybooking refunds are processed in batches, both on the 15th and 30th of the month. The Club will process refunds as soon as practical on or shortly after these dates. Your refund should appear on your credit card within two weeks of you advising the new CPS Registration number. The $100 deposit is forfeited if you do not advise the Club of your CPS registration number within three months.
  • It is the responsibility of the member to advise the Club Registrar of any future changes to that registration.

These guidelines help ensure members abide by the spirit of the CPS and the Club fulfils our obligations to VicRoads.



CPS Renewal

  • You are also responsible for ensuring the annual CPS renewal occurs on time. The CPS renewal form can only be signed by a Club Signatory.
  • Please contact VicRoads directly if your CPS renewal form is not received in time.
  • Please call one of the Club Signatories to arrange your renewal form to be signed. If sending by mail to the Club Signatory, please include a stamped self-addressed envelope.
  • Please do not mail your renewal to the Club address as it will delay your renewal process considerably.
